Introduction to the im domain
Introduction
The Isle of Man is a self-governing crown dependency
located within the British Isles although constitutionally separate from
the United Kingdom. In 1996 the Isle of Man Government obtained permission
to use the im National Top Level Domain (TLD) and has ultimate
responsibility for its use. The domain is managed on a daily basis by
Advanced Systems Consultants, an Island-based Internet Service Provider. A
naming committee consisting of representatives from the Manx Government
and local industry considers all domain applications. For more information
on the functions of the Naming Committee click here.
Why register a domain?
By registering your domain name it enables you or your
organisation to be uniquely identified on the Internet and therefore
allows others wishing to contact you to do so easily and without risk of
being misdirected (eg. www.mycompany.co.im).
How is the domain structured?
The im domain is structured similarly to that of many other
National TLDs and comprises of the following sub-level domains:
co.im | For use by companies, partnerships, sole traders and other commercial organisations |
ltd.co.im | For use by private limited companies |
plc.co.im | For use by public limited companies |
net.im | For use by Internet service providers |
gov.im | For use by the Isle of Man Government |
org.im | For use by individuals and non-profit-making organisations |
