For a number of years there have been intensive discussions to augment the existing gTLDs .com, .net, .org etc. with new gTLDs like .firm,
.shop or .web.
ICANN has decided on its meeting in
California on November 16, 2000, that the following seven new gTLDs will be introduced:
Top Level Domain
Eligible for Registration
Registry
Web-Address
.aero
Aviation Industry
Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques SC (SITA)
Registrations are currently only possible for the gTLDs .biz and .info - however, at first only trademarks owners will
be served.
DENIC does not offer registrations or reservations for the new gTLDs. Please
contact the above registries with your questions.
The top level Domains .firm, .shop or .web have been rejected.
Interested readers can browse through the historical gTLD-links, which explain
the on-going developments and the history of the gTLD process.
